Have you ever had a day or two when you didn’t watch TV or ready a newspaper and someone mentions something to you that makes you go “Was I in a bubble, I haven’t heard that?”… Well, that happened to me this weekend. You see I am in Germany for a couple days and did not hear the news that the US credit rating was downgraded by the S&P and someone mentioned it to me but I did not believe they understood what they were talking about so I paid it no mind. And because I haven’t been seeing English-speaking news I was taken aback a little when I heard it on the TV.<\/p>\n

People are running scared that the world’s reserve currency is barreling down the proverbial shitter but people are forgetting — possibly because the US doesn’t remind people (more on this in a minute) that we have a building in Kentucky with thousands of tons of gold bullion. In a place called Ft. Knox<\/a>, supposedly the world’s second largest supply of gold. Mind you we have the world’s largest too in Manhattan held by the US Federal Reserve Bank of New York<\/a>. By my calculation, if held at the Depository 100,000,000 (one hundred million) ounces of gold in Ft. Knox, that’s and gold is trading at $1,792\/oz as of today, that totals<\/p>\n

$179,200,000,000 ($179 billion)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And as I’m not a betting man I would probably say there’s more than that in the vaults – probably 10 or 100 times more which brings the total to 17 trillion!!!!<\/p>\n

So, guess what you want to say we have a debt crisis then I say we have the biggest credit guarantee around – wouldn’t you think. Now turning back to the Federal Reserve’s holding – although that gold isn’t really the American people’s like Ft. Knox, but possession if 9\/10ths of the law you know – so you want to take our status of reserve currency away, then let’s see you try to take that gold out of Manhattan and move it to Beijing or Berlin and see what happens.<\/p>\n

Now back to why I think we’re not reminding people that we have all this real money. For a lot of years people have speculated that there’s nothing in Ft Knox, the soldiers who protect it won’t say what they’ve seen, there haven’t been pictures of the contents in a very long time, more than one Congressman convened hearings about it because the US Treasury wouldn’t confirm or deny the contents to him and would not let me into it. So I wonder what’s in there myself – either there’s nothing there and we’re just living on a wing and a prayer or it is all there sewn up tighter than a virgin on prom night! I lean on the side of it being light possibly entirely light.<\/p>\n
