I remember trying <a href=\"http:\/\/www.babelfish.com\/\" title=\"Babelfish\" target=\"_blank\">Babelfish <\/a>a few years back and though it did present a translation of what I pasted in the translate box it had limited implications &#8211; like when you need to ask &#8220;how do you say&#8230;?&#8221; in this or that language.<\/p>\n<p>But I had a need to translate a website from German to English and remembered Google&#8217;s translate feature.  It does much more than Babelfish&#8217;s paste a word\/phrase -> translate thing.  I pasted the URL of the webpage and clicked the link on the other side.  Impressively the page opened in English &#8211; even some of the pieces in a composite graphic were now in English.  Of course a website that has metadata for changing the language is optimum, but in this case there was no English version of the website.<\/p>\n<p>Google is clearly one of the leaders in the tech space and I hope they continue using their superhero powers for good and not evil. <hint hint><\/hint><\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like everyone else I am increasingly more and more in awe of Google&#8216;s technology portfolio.
