I’ve been thinking recently about how much time in my life has been spent accepting oddball or weird societal norms or ideas as truths. And without looking too closely into it, I came across the idea that I later learned was cultural normalization.<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n

Here’s one that bugs the hell out of me: Respect your elders. That is entirely a cultural normalization that has nothing to do with respect and all to do with the people who make the rules will get old and they want other people to respect them. Another is not hitting women or children. For some reason the normalization is not DON’T HIT PEOPLE<\/strong><\/span> (as in including women and children) but that’s not the idea.\u00a0 It is perfectly OK to hit men… for being a dick, because they hit you, because you want to… whatever.\u00a0 But no, not women or children EVER no matter what they do, up to and including, for having hit you.<\/div>\n

So, I reject the notion of cultural normalization since I have my own culture [one of not being stupid] and most humans are not into that anymore.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
