I purchased the HP iPAQ Business Enterprise 211 PDA considering myself a long-time HP PDA user. I had already bought an iPAQ hx2490 and loved it but as HP does not offer OS upgrades, I upgraded to the iPAQ 110. The 110 memory management-wise was a joke, so I looked at the iPAQ 211. HP worked with me trading up to the 211. Everything great so far.
I’ve had minor problems with the 211 all along but it generally worked fine for the first 6 months of fairly consistent use. But then the problems started – and HP still has not made any software upgrades available.
For anyone with a Windows Mobile deivce hard resets (doing a factory reset of the OS and software) are woefully common. I’ve had to do it a couple times on the hx2490, the 110 and now the 211. But a couple months ago I had to do a hard reset on this unit and ever since the screen has been a bit out of whack. Progressively it got worse to the point of non-recognition. I tried the screen alignment utility to align the screen. The recognition utility keeps failiing so it just goes over and over the alignment process.
I’ve read many posts (on the HP forum and other websites) that it is a manufacturer defect of the digitizer but HP says it is not. Because of the run-around I was getting from support over the last 2 months the device fell out of warranty coverage and HP doesn’t wantto fix this issue.
Word to the wise: If you’re going to buy an iPAQ, at the first sign of a problem, get support to take a look at it because you don’t want to be stuck with a $400 paperweight!!!!
