Going to movies, Netflix (www.netflix.com), HBO, Showtime, there’s just too many movies (and shows) that I see to remember. Soas I get older and more forgetful, I decided create a scrapbook and notes of the movies (shows) I see. Don’t think of me as a critic, just a normal guy who criticizes just like everyone else. The rating and critique will start sporadically from now (9/20/2008) but for some of the movies prior to 9/2008 that I really liked or hated I might go back and append something.
Movie List (no reviews)
Waitress (9/24/08) – Good little movie if there’s nothing else on. OK acting, but brought me back to the thought of movies I’ve already seen before. Never Back Down (9/24/08) – Major waste of time. One of those silly movies that makes you argue with the dumb characters doing things that make no sense to someone with more than 10 good brain cells. Be Kind Rewind (9/24/08) – Cute little show movie with good actors doing B- work but still a good showing. Sex and Death 101 (10/3/2008) – OK – I’m off auto-pilot now, so I can walk and talk at the same time now. With this movie you have to turn off your mental powers to the point where you are just breathing. It was semi-enjoyable as this guy goes around locating women he is destined to screw and screws them. Sounds like a major win in some guys’ book. It kind of reminds me of Dick Cheney being told he is going to shot so-and-so in the face and arranges a time to have a gun in the woods so that he could shot so-and-so in the face. Socket (10/3/2008) – Wow, where do I start on this one? This movie is as unremarkable as the gay sex that was in it. The plot is so thin it goes beyond unbelievable to ridiculous and ill-conceived. I’m sorry, yes, people do get struck by lightning and live to tell, but very few people survive putting a knife into a 120V wall socket over and over again. And then the main character becomes a killer (even taking his wounded and dying friends last “amps”) was just a little too much to extend into the realm of disbelief. Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins (10/2/2008) – Another stupid movie with Martin Lawrence as a wit-less slap-stick-wannabe casting doubts over all black-dom to ever be anything more than comics. All we would have needed was a couple baby-mammas, babby-daddies, a crack-addict and another ‘hoe (Monique is the first one) to round out the characters and you would have the blaxplotation file of 2008 done up by the blacks themselves. Trifling as a good friend would say. Not at all funny when you stop to think about how ridiculous it is. Pride 10/4/2008 – I’ve seen this movie before and watched it again on Showtime. I am touched by this movie even though it sometimes does list over into the “Whitey got me down” mentality of so many black people. I want children to watch this movie as it does illustrate that hard work can prevail over privilege — maybe not all the time, but every now and again. Remember the Williams sisters and Tiger Woods? I would only wish that more people (black, brown, yellow, etc) would think like this and not that they can’t do anything at all. Good little movie.
