US Mint commemorates excellence
Over the last twenty-five years or so the US Mint has done some really fine numismatic work celebrating presidents, monuments, achievements, and lately people of all kinds. But I have to applaud them for their recent work focusing on the people the U.S. federal government has never been that great at celebrating. The recent introduction into regular circulation coins celebrating the rarely celebrated is welcome!
By paying tribute to Americans of all walks of life: from Eskimo, Hawai’i, Black, White, Indian, Asian, and Puerto Rican — not to mention women in general, it puts at least for a second the historic nature of this country’s diverse people on display… in our very pocket.
Next time you get a quarter in change or have the chance, please take a look at the history that you never learned about in school and then search about what you see to learn more. The US quarters have become a wealth of information from Anna May Wong in 2022 starting the American Women Quarters series to Ida B. Wells in 2025.
