Oh shit! When did this get worse than it used to be?

Alright, I know it has been over a year since I put any blog posts up that doesn’t mean things have not happened to me in this time.  The dog lost an eye to glaucoma; again went through another bout of mild depression – then went on drugs again and doggonit I feel better again…  much better.  New car (new to me at least but great low mileage and great condition); been going to church and met quite a few nice people, which probably has aided in the depression improvement.  Last summer was the best year ever for walking the dog – 4mi a day most days.  I walked almost 300 mi but now it is winter we struggle getting out – today we did about 3mi though thanks to above normal January weather.

Fixed the web hosting and got the blog to work again!!!  Decided I would like to try doing the click-refer ads for extra money.  Who knows the six people who read my blog might make me rich clicking on the product ads I include.  Not holding my breath there, but you never know.

I started keto AGAIN… The first time it went great, the second time alright, but this time I think it is here to stay.  The reason I am so optimistic this time is I have started using the Home Chef food delivery service for dinner meals.  Dinner meals are the hardest thing for me – I can make it through breakfast with bulletproof coffee or some such high fat option and lunch with whatever keto option I come up with (usually that is not a problem since I can eat BACON pretty much all day if I could and since Costco has already packaged cooked bacon this is like the easiest thing to pair with lettuce turkey or chicken wraps with guac).

Mmmmmm, bacon!

But I digress — dinner was hard because I always thought I needed to put together the basic American dinner tweaked to keto.  It was a mess because I never learning more advanced cooking techniques or pairings.

With Home Chef and a lot of services out there nowadays, I get a box of the ingredients for 3 meals and since each meal is for 2 people, I usually get 6 dinner meals out of it.  The best part of Home Chef 😋 though, is that  they provide the instructions and the guidance so that I can cook the meals myself.  But the best part is I am learning better pairings and things that I would have not cooked if I had just found it in the grocery store.  Take a look at this bad boy…

Although this is not a picture of the food I cooked (I have got the  crosshatching wrong) but this is what I prepared.  This is a very simple meal but the pork chops turned out brilliantly (I have never been a pork chop fan because I burned the hell out ’em back in the 90s once but the inside was still raw.  Freaked me out that I was that bad!

But with HC I expanded and I’m not looking back.  The cucumber/carrot ribbon salad I have made from my store-bought ingredients and believe me when I say I have never cooked mashed potatoes that did not come out of a box (thanks, Hungry Jack) but I created this whipped mashed potato masterpiece the other day and even added my own flair with garlic.  Darn I’ve been missing this and I started to like cooking.  $60/week for the 6meals is a whole lot better than $60/meal I sometimes spend going out to eat (hey hey now, wine is expensive 😉).

So I think this time keto will work for me and I should drop a few more inches of fat accumulation from around my pecs, gut and glutes that I have battled with for so long.  Of course I still get to the gym — not as regularly as I would like – but the dog walking (when it happens in the summer) and 75min of cardio really helps when you’re trying to fight off the fat that you built up from being a kid, teen, young adult and of course upwardly mobile 30/40-something professional.

OK, so this would not be one of my posts without a rant in it somewhere.  I’ve been pretty positive up to now which spooks me.  So here goes.  The original reason for this post was not to update some of the more dramatic things that happened in 2016 (there was one biggie that I am choosing not to mention because all the chickens have not come home to roost yet…) but I more wanted to say how this past weekend (New Years Eve 2017 by the way) is clearly getting more disappointing year after year.

In fact everything that used to be fun to me (socially) is more disappointing.  I have told the store before that I am sandwiched between two social generations in the gay community.  The older was the fun as hell bunch and the younger is the PRETEND to be fun as hell bunch.  In 1989 I remember clubs packed to the rafters and a good percentage of decent-to-good lucking fuckers.  You could go up to someone you didn’t know and say hi or buy them a drink without as much as a sideways glance as to motive.  And of course if the mood was right you could take a PYT home (that’s pretty young thang for all you genZ’ers who may not know) and get BUSY (that’s SEX for all you genZ’ers who may not know) without thinking you will wend up in a relationship, in somebody’s freezer, in jail, or hooked on some illicit substance from which there is no hope of escape.  Sex clubs (they do exist for all you screwballs who think there’s no such thing) used to be pretty fun with some quite handsome blokes.

Well, I remember when the scene started going downhill and it has keep degrading with no sign of stopping.  LA, NYC, Chicago, London, Miami, SFO, Denver, Atlanta, Montreal, AMS, Berlin, Sydney, Rio, Vienna (hell, I used to be quite a hoe [that’s a person who gets more sex than you do for everyone who doesn’t understand the TRUE meaning of that term!!!! not to be confused with whore, which I think we all know what that is]).  One time I went to a club in NYC with 7000 hotties and they didn’t mind the bump-grind-squeeze, especially when they unexpectedly reciprocated.

The last time I was in NY all I found were restaurants, condos, and mid-rises where this and other night clubs and hella morning establishments used to be.  It has been degrading for a number of years but I did not expect it to be such a decline in such a short span of time.  Almost like over a short decade (the iPhone decade) everything went further to shit faster and faster.  Replacing human interaction with selfies and text messages; Tendr/Grindr rather than live/in person, and worse instead of AOL inches we get laugh out loud gross distortions of the truth and measurements.  (For the uninitiated, AOL was the original online thing for everything from news and    We have DTF for a 5-minute hookup that satisfies not a single person in the world rather a mind-blowing hour or two that makes you want to look for this person again sometime.

So back to NYE17 to close out this rant.  Sin City of course is just a marketing plow, do not believe the hype.  If you come here don’t think you can cut a fool.  Yeah sex is possible – in the right place, in the right circumstance, with the right person, and sometimes for the right price.  You can do just as well where you live so don’t expect the panties to be dropping or people to be as nice, friendly, happy go lucky as you want.  Get it through you heads Vegas is only here to take tourist & visitor money while stimulating your senses with some stuff you might not see back in Iowa or West Virginia.

You will have a blast…

if only because you can drink all day until you get back on the plane to go home. And remember, when you black out, you always think you had more fun that you actually did.  Of course every visitor remembers

"What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" but every tourist also should remember the second famous saying about Vegas:

"Come on vacation leave on probation!"

Oh, hell, rant over.  Return to what you were doing.
