I have had cable TV and high speed Internet from Cox for four and a half years and for the most part happy with it — just not the bill that comes every month. Well about the time the TV cablebox software was upgraded (about 9-10 months ago) my HSI modem starts acting screwy. At first the screwy bit was hardly noticeable. Just once in a while not being able to receive the Cox signal. Quick reset and back online, no muss-no fuss. Then a about 3 months ago the modem probablem got dramatically worse. To the point the modem […]
CenturyLink Prism TV looking pretty good
After 4 years of Cox Communications continually raising their monthly bills for cable TV I finally dropped signed up for CenturyLink’s Prism. Back last year when they introduced it here in the Vegas area I was a little skeptical whether TV across DSL/Ethernet would be viable, especially with the Microsoft MediaRoom software on the cable box being one of those Microsoft apps that still needs a bit of shaking out before primetime. Well I can ultimately say that the TV image is better than cable and I’m glad I made the leap. Now if only I could cut the strings […]
Campaign mode in the US
Since I bought my bright shiny Asus Eee Transformer Prime Android tablet, I’ve been listening to Pandora. Every now and again there’s the same commercial about the Obama administration starting the process of weining us off petroleum dependence. I like the ad and it probably is true, but could you put those darn commercials somewhere else? 🙂
It’s 10 o’lock in the world somewhere
Parents, you should always know where your kids are!!!
“Rise of the Planet of the Apes” movie was pretty good time for $11
I think Charleston Heston will like the prequel of the series of movies that he starred in back in the 70s. The “Rise if the Planet of the Apes” had some very dramatic moments and poignant acting on threw part of both the main protagonist and some extreme moments from the supplemental characters. I do believe the romance in the movie was a bit out of place and seemed jammed in somehow. Not to give anything away for those who haven’t seen it but it is about a greedy pharmaceutical research company that is developing a cure for Alzeheimers and […]
Wow! the US is still the richest country on earth
Have you ever had a day or two when you didn’t watch TV or ready a newspaper and someone mentions something to you that makes you go “Was I in a bubble, I haven’t heard that?”… Well, that happened to me this weekend. You see I am in Germany for a couple days and did not hear the news that the US credit rating was downgraded by the S&P and someone mentioned it to me but I did not believe they understood what they were talking about so I paid it no mind. And because I haven’t been seeing English-speaking […]
London riots give a little pause to all the haves against the have nots
I was traveling to Germany when I learned of the riots in London and what was remarkable was how wide-spread and cross social boundaries the looting spread. When you looked at the faces it covered different ages, ethnicities, but the class was generally the same – the lower end. All the haves of the world should take this as a wake up call – if ever the have nots turn against them there won’t be any B&O stores left. After all, think about it in the US where the top 400 richest people have the wealth of 100 million at […]
Financial markets more grim than ever
I can’t remember which one means the stock market is moving upward – bull or bear! But I think with what happened yesterday on Wall Street the only thing to describe is a bullishly bare street. 512 points lost in a single day is something they say is apocalyptic right? But what do I know. Who knows… maybe all this stuff will serve to deteriorate so much wealth sitting on the sideline that the companies sitting on $2.5 trillion dollars of on-hand cash will start to do something with it. But at least today Friday saw a little improvement in […]
“Captain America” was awesome movie
I liked “Captain America” the cartoon and of course this particular movie. It started out easy and went through the background of the skinny twirp kid looking man who eventually who turns into the very muscle bound, nee hard as a rock, because of some government infusion ala German defector turned American super scientist… And then of course without spoiling the movie for anyone who hasn’t seen it I will simply say it was awesome.
HTC Evo is finally mine!!!!
Let me preface this posting by saying that I was impressed and eagerly awaited the Snapdragon-powered HTC phone long before it was ever was released to mobile carriers. I was then stoked more than ever to hear that Sprint would get it and the model would be called the Evo. But nowadays I am more a cheap bastard more than a technophobe. So when Sprint changed the Sprint Premier program which before the change would in exchange for lengthening my contract would give me a new phone annually. With the change though now I would have to wait 2 years […]
