On the move again And other musings

I have not posted a travel entry in a while even though I’ve been a few places. So in my efforts to take back a more orderly and scheduled life, which includes getting back on a workout Schedule, here I go. Such as life back An a pair if planes today with a little layover in one q the mid-west’s more beautiful cities and one on the list of places where I formerly lived-Denver. And about my workout regimen. I used to hit the gym everyday or mostly everyday. But in the last year or so, I have let going […]

Take the comp and get out

I was given a meal comp by one of Las Vegas’ casinos recently. (Santa Fe Station) Stupidly, I decided to use it for the meal. The thing the casino knows is that most people who have registered for their loyalty/player cards can’t come into a casino without gambling. Case in point is why so many casinos have put cinemas in them so you have to walk past the one-arm bandits on your way to your movie or favorite eatery and then again on the way back to the car. So most people stop and gamble if just for a bit. […]

$700 Billion would buy a lot of soap

I’ve pondered over the last few days the financial market plan in the Congress and listened to the many partisan comments on C-SPAN, MSNBC and CNBC. I was amazed that this guy calls in and says this is a Democratic power grab. Albeit I am more surprised how many political pundits don’t call out the STUPID people when they see them. You know what? I think they have just given up because they don’t want to look like Rush or Don Imus for sometime telling the truth. No one knows what’s going to happen, not no one. Whether the Congress/President […]

Just give me my money!

OK. I was stupid when I took the bait from Washington Mutual Bank a couple weeks ago and opened a pair of new accounts. Now I am a little bit more than anxious with the closure of WaMu by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC). Then we hear the mid-week action by the insurance authority has brokered an asset-only sale to JP Morgan Chase. So now WaMu is part of JPMC to create an even larger Chase Bank. Oh, I can only remember when Chase was a much smaller bank, before it was gobbled up by the venerable Chemical Bank […]

HP’s 210 Enterprise PDA

I’ve had quite a few PDA’s (Personal Digital Assistants). Starting out in the 90s with an Apple Newton, then moving to a Palm V, then a couple other things that I have even forgotten. But for the last few years I’ve used a Windows Mobile device – two to be exact. One just an earlier model of the one I have now. Since the days of the Newton, these little devices have really changed what we’re doing. Of couse smartphones are great tools, but sometimes I like whipping out my little computer and writting on the screen, forcing more than […]

Avalon Harbor on Catalina Island

Catalina Islanta is a quaint little island off the coast of Los Angeles near Long Beach. It is home to year-around tourist’ing and even many permanent residents. It is a great place to take friends visiting from out of town who want to see laid back southern California life with a cosmo feel. The best way to get there if you don’t own your own boat:Catalina Express
