Live From The Field

Am I the last polite person in the world? Everyday I encounter either live and in person or through radio/Internet/TV people in the act of being rude.  Now I don’t mean the ‘rude’ people like to say someone is being when they are doing something you don’t like.  That just usually follows some stupid thing that someone else did that caused the ‘rude’ thing to occur. Rude encompasses a lot of behaviors but the type of rude I mean is when one person is speaking to another and the listener jumps in halfway to comment or finish the person’s thought […]

A fun exercise

A fun exercise Am I usual or unusual ?!? 2% or 98% … This is strange…can you figure it out? Are you the 2% or 98% of the population? Follow the instructions! NO PEEKING AHEAD! * Do the following exercise, guaranteed to raise an eyebrow. * There’s no trick or surprise. * Just follow these instructions, and answer the questions one at a time and as quickly as you can! * Again, as quickly as you can but don’t advance until you’ve done each of them … really. Now, scroll down (but not too fast, you might miss something.) Think […]

Google leads with great technology portfolio

Like everyone else I am increasingly more and more in awe of Google‘s technology portfolio. I remember trying Babelfish a few years back and though it did present a translation of what I pasted in the translate box it had limited implications – like when you need to ask “how do you say…?” in this or that language. But I had a need to translate a website from German to English and remembered Google’s translate feature. It does much more than Babelfish’s paste a word/phrase -> translate thing. I pasted the URL of the webpage and clicked the link on […]

Economic problems not too easy to solve

Because this is a presidential election year, I am hearing so much of the usual rhetoric about why I should vote for this guy over that one. Something I not only expected to be bombarded with but I knew would be a major topic of discussion would be the economy. Of course the economy is not where it should be – and because President Barack Obama said back before the start of his presidency that if he couldn’t get things changed in four years no one in Washington would be there next election cycle. Well things have not changed so […]

Drive in pretty good but nothing beats air conditioning

The drive it from Saturday night was pretty decent. Unfortunately, the Las Vegas night did not do the usual temperature drop. This night 100-degrees persisted well into the 11pm hour. Only rarely did the warm air blow but even then it was only beareable. Prolonged exposure to these temperatures is dangerous so it won’t be something I do again for quite a while – probably in the fall. So back to the air conditioned cinema I go for the next movie. Double feature you will be missed… 🙂

Going to the drive-in

It has been more than 30 years since I went to a drive-in movie. Of course that was when I was a wee babe, so this time as an adult I am going to see if the drive-in movie experience is still pretty cool. Of course I also learned that the double feature is still going strong. With luck the Westwinds Drive-in in N. Las Vegas will be a throwback to a simpler time. Unfortunately one thing I will probably be disappointed with will be how people and their children behave. In any case, zipped up in my little capsule […]

Getting ready for summer – vegetarian juicing

I purchased my Hurom Slow Juicer today – another one of my expensive purchases like the carpet shampooer but with luck I will use this thing. I will let you know as I am going to be trying a 30-day detox. I don’t know if I can do all juice only, but I’m going to at least try to have a juice meal everyday. I will let you know how day 1 goes tomorrow.

DO NOT BUY Apple MacBook Pro

I have been a moderate Apple devotee for several years. Although I never rush out to buy the new product releases the day of delivery I usually wend up with it sometimes. Well I had a MacBook that I enjoyed for over 2.5 years with no problems – only the usual software glitches. I am far more a Windows/Linux person for work and personal use but a couple years ago I bought the MacBook because I liked the simplicity for leisure use and the relative few potential virus problems of the platform when I am out on public wifi networks. […]
